Diabetic Retinopathy is a potentially vision threatening eye condition that affects almost 10 million Americans. Those with poorly controlled type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus are at higher risk of developing this condition. It is characterized by damaged blood vessels in the retina, which can lead to leaking fluid and bleeding. In more advanced stages, abnormal new blood vessels grow in the retina, leading to more significant bleeding and retinal detachments. Orange County Ophthalmology has general ophthalmologists and retinal specialists who provide examinations and treatment for Diabetic Retinopathy. OCT imaging and fluorescein angiograms are done in the office to further evaluate this retinal disease. Intravitreal injections of Avastin (and other medicines), retinal laser treatments, and pars plana vitrectomy surgery are provided when necessary. We are happy to assist in your retinal care needs!
